Major research interests

  • coordinates projects of survey and research of indigenous and endemic species
  • helps designation and withdrawal of wildlife protected under law
  • supports proliferation, restoration, and conservation of endangered wildlife
  • establishes an effective system to investigate, collect, analyze, and manage foreign biological resources
  • coordinates preparation and policy recommendation for the ABS protocol
  • sets up and adjusts a national database for biological resources
  • collects, organizes, and publishes research and statistics of biological resources at home and abroad
  • Biological Resources Coordination Division organizes projects of preservation and management of biological resources; plans surveys and researches of acquisition and utilization of biological resources; publishes ‘Inventory of Endemic Species of Korea’ to verify the existence of endemic species, and secure the sovereignty over national species; exchanges human resources and conducts joint research to survey foreign biological resources; forms a system to designate and manage endangered wildlife based on scientific investigation of habitats and geographical distribution of wildlife; and builds a network to share information with related institutes
