Diversity of Native Species of Korea

  • Major native species are systematically displayed according to the five-kingdom system of life, which encompasses the kingdoms Monera, Protista, Fungi, Plantae, and Animalia.
  • Tiny species of Monera, Protista, and Fungi which are invisible to the naked eye, are displayed using magnified photos and models.
  • The characteristics, structures, and life cycles of major plant taxa (e.g., bryophytes, pteridophytes, gymnosperms, and angiosperms) are provided. Representative native and endemic species are also on display.
  • The mammal collection is the nation's largest, and has 23 native species on display, including a wild fox that is rarely seen in Korea.
  • The bird collections include resident and migratory birds found in Korea. In particular, the routes of migratory birds are shown with the corresponding bird specimens.
  • Specimens and photographs of 221 endangered species recognized by the Ministry of Environment are displayed to alert the public to the urgent need to conserve biodiversity.
