Diversity of Native Species of Korea
- Major native species are systematically
displayed according to the five-kingdom system of
life, which encompasses the kingdoms Monera, Protista,
Fungi, Plantae, and Animalia.
- Tiny species of Monera, Protista, and Fungi which
are invisible to the naked eye, are displayed
using magnified photos and
models.
- The characteristics, structures, and life cycles
of major plant taxa
(e.g., bryophytes, pteridophytes, gymnosperms,
and angiosperms)
are provided. Representative native and endemic
species are also on display.
- The mammal collection is the nation's largest,
and has 23 native species on display, including
a wild fox that is rarely seen in Korea.
- The bird collections include resident and migratory
birds found in Korea. In particular, the routes
of migratory birds are shown with the corresponding
bird specimens.
- Specimens and photographs of 221 endangered species
recognized by the Ministry of Environment are
displayed to alert the public to the urgent need
to conserve biodiversity.
