The first ever training and learning programs on the Nagoya Protocol were held for both biotech companies and scientific institutions.
Genetic Resources Information Center (GRIC) of NIBR announced that it held the special ABS programs for 2 days, starting from July 4 to 5 at Konjiam Resort, Gyeonggi province for those who are required to comply with ABS requirements under the Protocol.
ABS experts and specialists from GRIC of NIBR, Korea Institute of Intellectual Property (KIIP), Tong-In Law Firm, and Korea Biotechnology Industry Organization (KoreaBio) joined the programs as lecturers and share their experiences working on ABS issues in practice.
They gave presentations on the overview of the Nagoya Protocol, ABS reporting and contracts, foreign ABS policies and measures, and ABS case studies and strategies, etc.
Mr. Lee Je-Hoon, Director of GRIC said: “The Act on Access and Utilization of Genetic Resources and Sharing of Benefits (Abbreviated: Act on Genetic Resources) has been fully enforced since 2018. Accordingly, we organized these practical ABS programs for both Korean companies and scientific institutions, so that they are able to smoothly and legally access and utilize genetic resources at home and abroad. We will continue to assist those domestic companies and stakeholders with useful and practical ABS programs.
