Joint seminar held by NIBR and Korean Society of Systematic Zoology


NIBR held an online seminar titled “The Effects of Climate Change on Animal Populations in

Korea” jointly with the Korean Society of Systematic Zoology. The seminar was held on

22 October 2021 consisting of 7 presentations and panel discussions by 12 experts from government, academia, and research institutions.


7 presentations were delivered by Dr. Konstantin Lutaenko of National Scientific Center of Marine Biology,

Russian Academy of Sciences; Professor María Cecilia Pardo-Gandarillas of the University of Chile; Dr. Seong-Joong Kim

of Korea Polar Research Institute; Dr. Kyung Ah Koo of Korea Environment Institute; Professor Sei-Woong Choi of Mokpo National

University; Professor Ui-Wook Hwang of Kyungpook National University and, Professor Ik-Soo Kim of Chonnam National University.


Professor Ui-Wook Hwang moderated the panel discussions focusing on climate change measures for biodiversity conservation and the presentations’ contents.


Based on the results of the seminar, NIBR will find new research areas to deal

with future challenges imposed by climate changes and reflect its biodiversity conservation policies.  

 
Dr. Jin-Young Park, director-general of NIBR Biological Resources Research Department said: “

This seminar serves as a venue to share research outcomes relating to biodiversity conservation and climate changes

and it is meaningful to discuss together on potential measures to address climate crisis through conserving biodiversity.”
