Submission of Manuscripts

Authors should submit the manuscript file to the Editorial Office (managing editor), using the online Manuscript Submission & Editing System. And authors preparing papers in excess of 30 journal pages (including Figures and Tables) should contact the Editorial Office prior to submission. All contents issued in the “Journal of Species Research” are provided at our homepage (www.nibr.go.kr) as PDF files without charge.

Title Page
This page should include the following items:
1) Manuscript type (e.g., research paper, review, note); 2) Title (capitalized only the first word and formal names, taxa, geographic locations, etc.); 3) Short running title (maximum 8 words); 4) Full names for all authors; 5) Institutional affiliations (normal font in italics) for all authors; 6) Contact full information (e-mail address, phone number and fax number) for the corresponding author. The corresponding author should be marked with a superscript asterisk on the top-right to the author’s name.
Abstract and Keywords
The abstract should not be more than 250 words and should summarize the aim of the research, the methodological approach, and the significance of the results. More than 3 key words should be provided in alphabetical order.
Main Text
The main text should normally be subdivided into five sections: introduction, materials and methods, results, discussion (results and discussion) and acknowledgements. But some manuscripts may follow a difference format.
Full reference information should be provided for all literature cited in the text. In the main body of a research paper, in case of a paper by single author, it is described as Anderson (2008), in cases of two co-authors, as Burnham and Anderson (2002) and in cases of more than three co-authors, as Leirs et al. (1997). When more than two dissertations are quoted, they are cited in chronological order (such as Merrick and Loughlin, 1997; Brandon, 2000; Milette and Trites, 2003). When more than two dissertations that are published by the same author in the same year are quoted, it is listed as (Courchamp et al., 2000a; 2000b). References should be listed in alphabetical order by author surname. Below are the formats of common types of references. Please, see a recent issue of the Journal for other format.
  • 1) The first letter of books or reports, book titles of magazines should be capitalized.

Figure legends
Figure legends should be on a separate page following the References.
Tables and Figures
Tables and Figures should be referenced in the text in an appropriate location and arranged one per page. [e.g., ...China and Russia, and near the Japanese archipelago (Fig. 1, Table 1)]. Each table should be on a separate page with the table legend. Figures should be planned so that after reduction they will fit one column (8 cm) or two columns (17 cm) in width, and be no more than 23 cm in INFORMATION FOR AUTHORS length. Allow sufficient space so that the legend can be placed beneath the figure. The author’s name and short title of the paper should be included in the file name of each figure or group of figures.
Figures should be submitted as separate files in TIF, JPG or PPT formats etc.


Proofs must be corrected upon receipt and returned to the Managing Editor, nibr2007@korea.kr.

Cover Photographs

Particularly good photographs that pertain to a paper being submitted will be considered for use on the cover page. Submit the image file(s) (300 dpi or preferably 600 dpi, TIFF or EPS format etc.) with the final copy of the manuscript, preferably scalable to a 14×18 cm format. Include a brief legend for the inside front cover (send as a separate Word document). See the inside cover of a recent issue for the legend format.

Editorial Policy

Review Process
“Journal of Species Research” is a peer-reviewed journal and the manuscripts are reviewed by three referees with abundant research experience in the relevant fields of the submitted manuscript, and the final editorial decision is made by the Editorial Committee, based on the referees’ evaluations. After reviewing, the manuscript is returned to the corresponding author for revision, the revised manuscript must be re-submitted within one month.
If it is not submitted within the designated period without any special reasons, such manuscript is deemed to be withdrawn from evaluation voluntarily.
Ethical Aspects
The author should not use ideas, research or records of others without quoting them. The corresponding author is responsible for all the contents of the manuscript. Authors must deposit data, strains or other materials in scientific collections (e.g., culture collections, herbaria, GenBank, etc.) to make it possible to repeat the experiments and perform future research.
Research published in the Journal of Species Research must have been conducted in accordance with institutional, national and international guidelines concerning the use of animals in research and/or the sampling of endangered species. For the policies on research and publication ethics that are not stated in these instructions, the Guidelines on Good Publication Practice should be applied (available from: http://publicationethics.org/static/1999 /1999pdf13.pdf).
All authors must have materially participated in research and/or article preparation. Individuals listed as authors must: 1) agree to be listed: 2) have contributed to the research reported: 3) approve the submitted version of the manuscript. The statement that all authors have approved the final article should be true and included in the disclosure: 4) with regard to conflict of interest, the authors should include a statement at the end of the paragraph of the Results and Discussion section that: "The author(s) declare no conflict of interest and take complete responsibility for the integrity of the data and the accuracy of the data analysis": 5) If the studies involve experiments on animal subjects, the manuscript should contain a statement in the Materials and Methods section that: "The studies were conducted in accordance with the relevant ethical guidelines".
Conflict of Interest Statement
The corresponding author must inform the editor of any potential conflicts of interest that could influence the authors’ interpretation of the data. Examples of potential conflicts of interest are financial support from or connections to pharmaceutical companies, and academically related issues. In particular, all sources of funding applicable to the study should be explicitly stated
Originality and Duplicate Publication
All submitted manuscripts should be original and should not be under consideration by other scientific journals for publication at the same time. No part of the accepted manuscript should be duplicated in any other scientific journal without the prior permission of the Editorial board.
If duplication publication related to the papers of this journal is detected, the author’s infraction will be announced in the journal, their institutes will be informed, and there will be penalties for the authors.
Submission of a manuscript implies that: 1) the work description has not been published; 2) it is not under consideration for publication elsewhere; 3) its publication has been approved by all co-authors.
