  • Establishing an information system on 30,000 Korean speices
  • Discovering 60,000 new and unrecorded species
  • Securing 4,5million biological resources at home and abroad
  • Becoming the best Korean Executive Agency


The major functions of NIBR are to ;

  • collect, preserve, and manage biological resource collections,
  • conduct surveys and research on biological resources,
  • provide support to the bio-industry, including source materials and/or information of wild species for basic and applied research,
  • develop a national biological resources database network and support policy development on biodiversity issues, and
  • present exhibitions and provide educational programs on biological resources.
